General Music

Throughout her tenure as a music educator, she has employed the Orff-Schulwerk approach for primary and intermediate grades using recorders, xylophones, and other percussion instruments in order to convey the elements of music. African Drumming and Poetic Drumming are excellent tools she has used to integrate history and literature for intermediate and upper-level students. Her professional experience also includes writing original curricula and professional development resources for general music classes. Additionally, through her efforts at Pritzker School, she has developed the elementary band program for 5th-8th grade students.

Dr. Jenkins is exploring the idea of incorporating Teaching Artistic Behaviors in the General Music Classroom for middle school students.

Finally, Dr. Jenkins has, for 17 years, with the help of countless parents and dedicated arts partners, produced all-school musicals such as Annie, Jr., Willie Wonka, Jr., The WIZ, Aladdin, Jr., 101 Dalmatians, Jr., The Music Man, Jr. and more. She is delighted to work among such an innovative group of parents and energetic students!
